  4. NMD 304 notes (josh smith)

Take notes every class. on paper, no computer.
post notes typed to NMD blog labeled notes.
Post to another blog, called Responce. Responce isn't to recap class, but to talk about ideas either expressed in class or ideas realized in class.
Sylabus @raphieldelizio.com under the "How" section of the sight, under coursename/number.
    test on it thursday
    no hats
Not posting 5 hours after class makes them late, not graded. If a project isn't finished, still show up to class.
don't fake sick when a project isn't done.
don't be sick on days of critique
If sick and can't make it, at least get project to Raph's iDisk.

    3600 assignment-
    write poem,
    length either 1-5 minutes
write lines of poems as boolean search strings
use more concrete words over abstract
    concrete- tree, house, kitten --Iconic
    abstract- sad, coldly, intelligent-- Symbolic

images must all be sized the same. 720X480 ppi, determine FPS on the speed of poem/pictures you collect.

    Movie layered:
voiceover of reading of poem(good quality)
overlays (if i so choose to get fancy)
    images

go to itunes, type in NMD, look for 304, examples are up.

  5. Notes of the day:

-we should be posted online within 5 hours after class ends
-reflections should be kind of deep, not just "we did this..."
-exchange of dialog is good, like the "awesome" class from last spring
-we can always chat with Raph online if we text him first

-To access syllabus we go to raphaeldiluzio.com-->Hal-->304
    -ignore due dates

    -Margaret Boden is important
    bit.ly/4YDVxb

    (funny boob commments)

-will definitely be a test on syllabus

-if you don't finish your project you should still show up for critique
-no lame excuses, it's always worth attending

    -Assignment 1--The 3600

-write a poem, every line is a boolean string
    -line length not important
-key words in each line as an image search
-for image searches generally you use concrete imagry

    -icon-representation of thing
    -index-references or points toward thing
-symbol-a thing we use to represent the thing, but not the thing itself-cherry tree=George Washington

-abstract imagry is more metaphorical or description e.g. dreary, fear
-concrete is more iconic e.g. chair, poodle

    (Microsoft Bing joke)

    -need 3,600 unique still images
    -all at 720x480
    -72 ppi
-each image can be as quick as a frame
-3 seconds of black at beginning and end with formal title sequence
    -name, class, assignment
-can been 1-5 mins in length
-keep persistence of vision in mind for frame rate

-we turn in on Thursday in class a disk with a folder of all resized images and a video including voiceover track of poem reading

-keep batch processing and automatic image downloaders in mind to make this remotely doable

-check out iTunes U->NMD->304 for ideas/references

-overlays are good, we can always extend the length of each image or repeat them, just so long as there are 3,600 uniques images total.
