Well I guess I will get things started here. Today was about what I had expected, and truth be told, I was excited about class today. All of us, whether you finished the work or not, went through hell over the last 36 hours. I believe Raph had two reason for this assignment; the obvious - to weed some people out of the class, and the not so obvious - to see what the class could come up with on a huge assignment over a very short time period.
The class as a whole was pretty diverse, it was cool to see how everyone handled the pressure, and still managed to make something unique. No two assignments were simply images with a poem, everyone put some kind of personal twist on it.
I think today held very good responses to the project and assignment that we were given. as Rob said, there were a lot of diverse projects shown, some more successful than others, all respected by myself. I think this was another example of a pressure cooker assignment like last year.
I did enjoy doing it, and I think I learned from it, but I also think it may have been a little bit over the top for a two day assignment. Looking back at the iTunes lectures, other students were given the opportunity to just find the images first, and they were given a full week. However, I do understand that students who are not willing to put forth the effort should not be in the class, and this was a good way to weed them out.
I thought today was pretty neat, you could tell before the class even started that some people hadn't finished entirely, there was a sense of agreed upon panic. I have to agree with Rob in saying it was a huge task with minimal time allotted to do so. I was happy I was able to finish it and got by with a "Good Job" and that was that. I liked how everyone had their own style of doing things and I can't imagine the stress level of the kids who manually picked each image. The only benefit in doing that is being able to weed out the large amount of cat, flower, and transformer images received. I noticed the class was a bit smaller today in numbers, so the 3,600 project did its job on some kids. I have a feeling that number is going to come back for Raph......
I feel overall today went well. The project, as discouraging as it was to see a good portion of the class unfinished, still turned out pretty well in comparison to what time we had been allotted. I know i had trouble with obtaining photographs in a timely manner, and as a result was my downfall, but i feel part of that was the amount of time i spent just looking for a software that would download pictures in batches.
Aside from my failure, the completed projects were great to see, many of which had deep poems. I felt a little out of place with my Dr Seuss-ish attempt at it, an ameture within a group of well classed writers.
I thought the critique went well, it gave everyone an idea of what Raph expects on projects. Considering all the hype about Raph and the workloads he gives, it should come as no surprise that he has high standards. However, they're not impossible to reach and can easily be met with an investment in time and effort which alot of people seem eager to do this semester. Good job everyone on your 3600 projects and good luck in finishing them those of you who weren't finished!
So I'm not quite sure but I thought our New Media department pushed heaveliy towards collaberation. Raph on the other hand is more of an everyone for themselves kind of guy and so be it. I was not happy with the amount of time was were given last assignment but i guess that was to try and weeds people out of the class. I like poeples poems and I thought the class did a nice job overall. Personally I wish i had done mine differnently which would have saved me a lot of time and sleep. But either way Im not ready to back out of the race yet so bring it on.
Todays class went well. The critique was quick but managed to take up the majority of the class. Just about everyone submitted something and it all seemed to be pretty good. I really liked the speed of the critique. Some classes it tends to drag on a bit, but it seemed like Raph was flying through them today. All around just another day in class with Raph I guess. Another thing I found interesting was the number of people who attended this class in comparison to the first class. I thought more people would have tried to get it done and stay in the class. Overall I'm just glad to be done with that 3600 image project.
Response to John: I agree with it being a little over the top, but honestly did we expect anything less. I kind of missed the ass kicking we received in 204 and this was just a little refresher on what it actually feels like to be doing work while in college.
I would have to say that this is the most time consuming project I have done in a two day span. I really feel a sense of accomplishment after completing this and am fairly proud of the way it turned out. I'm not as surprised with the number of people who dropped, because that is what I was expecting.
Response to rob: I do agree that everyone had their own style with this project, but I feel that the majority of the differences came from the poems, because your images are directly connected with your word choice in the poem, and that is what made the poems seem either dark or cheerful.
As far as class today went it was quite interesting to see what people came up with. I robbed myself of a lot of time getting all of my images by hand, but I also searched for a way to do it faster first, and was afraid I'd rob myself of time that way. Either way at least I have a second shot at it this time around. I was also glad to see some people actally not only fully finished the project but also had things done well. Kudos to you guys!
As this was my first time visiting the class I was quite confused as to the procedure. The poems were awful, the videos were seizure inducing, and it all looked like it took a lot of time and effort. I was given the same assignment due the next day (didn't sleep much that night) but I managed to send it in on time. The assignment seems purposefully designed to weed out the less committed from the class as it was actually quite easy, just not within the timeframe given. Not entirely unexpected though, Raphs a hard touch.
Today assignment 1 was due and I was surprised to see how many were actually done. I was also surprised to see how many people dropped the class. I liked how Raph critiqued us, short and sweet. Since there are so many of us I think thats the only way he can do it. I am glad that there were ways to get around this challenging assignment, otherwise I probably would have died. I was happy with how mine came out but my audio was a little iffy. I am really looking forward to this class, but I am a little skeptical because if it's going to keep getting harder then that then I think I might have some hard times.

This was alot of work, but it was kind of fun.
