Tuesday-A3 Work in Progress due before class 8AM to Raphael's iDisk
Looked at A2 Projects-- Don't slack on assignments.
* will now be having in-class progress reports- make sure to start on projects as soon as they are assigned.
consider how far you can stretch temporality...
Mine- sucked, boring, too linear, music video (even though the music did not go with the video whatsoever!) Zack- too linear like mine, used music too. Kristy- Sound was good, but ended abruptly. John M.- Linear, but more interesting then mine. John H.- Good narrative, sound was good. Sam- not finished, but temporality was good. Rebekah- On the verge of temporality, same narrative as past projects. Rob- had sound too, only temporality shown once. Matt- most successful thus far, layering, and non linear was effective. Aaron- too long, background music worked well. Sean- too long, good non linear shots. Dylan- had good effects, a little too long. Jeff- anticipation was good, but later realize the drums aren't actually played. Repetitively used shots well. Ethan- long, the effects were weird and didn't really understand why they were there. Jeremy- good narrative (my favorite) but the editing didn't seem to effective to me. Josh- didn't use 12 frame edit properly.
Experiment-- the more you play with things the better.
Don't be linear? Don't use music?
Need Temporality!
HW: Work in progress for A3 on iDisk by 8AM Tuesday morning.
- Export so movies open in Quicktime not FCP - Experiment more on projects - Start assignments the day they are assigned - Just about everything is linear, mostly me though - Better way to use music is to break it up - Breaking what is expected makes t less linear - Tons of overlays, darkness, and effects are cool - Before class on tuesday (8:00am) post work in progress to Raphs iDisk - A3 Due next Thursday
Make sure to post on time! also, remember to export in quicktime using quicktime compression.
on a side note- ipad is debated, students not excited about it much. but raphael argues its uses well.
Most pieces had a lack of temporal distortion. Mine wasn't even editing in 12 frame segments.
make sure to start on projects when given, and experiment. Break down send pieces and replay them. Then cut/paste/play with pieces until your satisfied.
get clips from assignment 3 at the very least on raph's idisk under folder works in progress?
Today - Critique of Edit on 12 Frames assignments.
ReplyDeleteRather than post my notes on individuals, Ill summarize a little bit.
Overall: Class had issues with the assignment.
-Work was good, but not what it should have been
-Several people misunderstood the "Music" properties
-Assignments were largely linear, less experimentation that was expected...
For Tuesday, 2/2
-Have work in progress for Sound Poem uploaded to iDisk by 8am.
Lecture Notes 1/28/10
ReplyDeleteThere are going to be in progress reviews from now on.

ReplyDeleteHow far can we stretch the temporal range?
Need to experiment with all assignments
Can break the laws of time
Mine: music was a distraction, made it too much of a music video
Next Tuesday, work-in-progress for A3

Lats of talk about the not so great ipad
ReplyDeleteI made a retarded comment about the camera
Bad things about videos
Too linear
too linear
too linear
sound overlaid everything
too much like music videos
Too create a less linear piece jump back to things to reinforce them
