3/25/2010 - Reflection

  1. Class today was interesting, it was a lot easier to understand Raph because he was there and you could hear him, but I felt like he had less to say today than on Tuesday. I'm really glad I presented on Tuesday because Raph said, and who knows if it is true, but the lowest grade you could get for going Tuesday was a B+.
Hopefully I can figure out how to make my piece animated, because after some initial tests it is looking more difficult than anticipated.

  2. I'm looking forward to seeing what people come up with for their project after today's class of "Oh man, just wait... it's going to be awesome..." I think that people have potential to do some really great things and have ideas brewing in their heads, and the fact many people couldn't explain their ideas makes me wonder what they are going to show come the due date.
This weekend is going to be a lot of testing and manipulating in after effects to try to get my animated self to look right with my piece, and I'm looking forward to seeing some results.

  3. I don't know what the hell is going on anymore. Had I known that I had to make a nonlinear text and shape based movie and then somehow make a linear storyline to interact inside of it beforehand things might be different. My piece cuts a lot, its not in order, it's non linear like he wanted, now I have to make myself interact with it and make sense, the only thing I can possibly do is make it more ridiculous because thats the only way it might sort of make any sense but not really. So now I have to think of something that makes sense to put it something that doesnt make sense, expect greatness and narwhals

I'm glad I didn't say "don't worry it will be great". Todays class was interesting. It seems like Raph wasn't very happy it seemed, but it does seem a bit odd the way we went about doing this. Over all it was an average class with not much to take notes on.

  5. Class went a lot more smooth and quicker then last class. The sounded like a bowel movement but whatever, its true. I thought all the storyboards were good, some were a little disorganized but most of them I understood the plot. It is really hard for everyone including myself to include ourselves in the piece because none of us knew we would have to do that in the long run. I think if this was a 3 part assignment Raph should have explained to us that we should have an animation that would be easy enough to put ourselves into. Thankfully I had an object that was close to a humans movements but for some other people it would be a lot more hard I feel like. I think we will have some very interesting pieces to see in the next few weeks.

  6. i agree with jade that there should have been some sort of informing us that we would need to be in the piece. The rest of the storyboards were interesting to watch, though. Overall i think that this weekend will show a lot of progress with our work, and we'll have something to show on thursday.

  7. I understand where Raph was coming from after today's class, but my initial idea of a storyboard as I understood it for this class was something that would combine pictures and a presentation. However, after today's class I now know that the storyboard needs to be a standalone piece, able to completely (and I mean completely) stand-alone representation of your idea(s). I think my opening transition works well, though my closing one needs more work. I think the transitions were one part of the project that many people misunderstood, good thing we got things cleared up before April 6. Enjoy the nice weather and have a great weekend everyone.

  8. so its interesting to see that the falling asleep and dreamstate transition was so common. I like the story boards, I think we could all do more work to get our points accross exactly and like jeremy said, have it explain everything, to the last detail. I think sometimes it works out that you dont know exactly what you wanna do, until you actually do it. I found it hard to show what I wanted to do without actually doing it, and if it didn't make sense, then I clearly didn't considerate it long enough.

  9. Raph shouted at people about having little videos and not animatics, and then was surprised when no one had aditional storyboards. Raph also got pretty pissed about the sleep transitions. Fortunately my presentation was a storybaord, not an animatic and my transition is pretty literal and clear. Other than having raph berate my drawing skills I managed to escape relatively unscathed. Good for me!
