Today was short, but Im glad the class went as well as it did. I really should thank Aaron, Dylan, and Ethan for showing what they had, because it really cleared up a few issues in my mind. Im going to more or less start my video over, and work through the night to see what I can produce based on a new understanding.
I agree with rob that Aaron, Dylan and Ethan's pieces really did clear some things up. They also have me questioning if my piece is what raph is looking for. Since my AfterEffect skills are not that great I'm curious to see how far I can really push myself for this project.
Today's class was alright. I like looking at other peoples work and it showed me that Raph is looking for all different kinds of styles, so basically whatever you do better be brilliant or have a good reason as to why you did it. I was really confused because last class Raph said bring in work for critique IF you wanted it, but if not then that was fine but he was pissssssed when almost none of us brought work in. I know he contradicts himself but I wish he would be clearer with exactly what he wants or else people aren't going to give him what he wants. I felt as though I didn't even have enough work to be critiqued so I just didn't bring it in, but that seemed to be a huge problem. I am going to get going on what I have and hopefully have some good results from it.
I think today could have gone a lot better, if I would have brought my piece in. I feel kind of dumb for not bringing it in, but the truth is that even as I put the finishing touches on it over the next couple days, I won't be able to all I want to do and what will be suggested. So far, though, I'm happy with what I've come up with, though I may end up changing the color palette in exchange for a grayscale one.
It was nice to see work that got the praise it deserved. Frankly I've been exhausted with all of the back and forth dialogue between the class and Raph, so to see some work was definitely motivating. I have to agree with the fact that we do have terrible work ethic for this class, things have been getting dragged way the fuck out for no reason, I'm still getting used to the pace of it all. I need to kick myself in the ass and come up with something great for thursday, motivation has been the troublesome cousin of this debacle. Music and coffee, don't sleep kids.
thanks for making me look good guys I needed the break. Honestly though I was going to class hoping that I had enough work to have a critic and worried about it. Other comments towards Raph is that "we don't know what he wants" the biggest thing I took away from this class was FUCK the assignment. Do your work and do it to an ability that you can be proud of and if that is what you produce then the assignment requirement are useless. I think that Raph is one of the only teaher that actually believes in this notion and I wish my other new media teacher would get their heads out of their asses and get on board. Remember this assignment is on a trial basis Raph just made this shit up in his head one night. If he ever chooses to do this assignment again it will be our projects that will be examples on the iTunes folders.
I was pretty impressed with the projects that were shown. I admit I felt out of place being the only one to raise his hand when raphael asked if that looked difficult. I don't think my AE skills are up to par, but I am gonna try my best to make an interesting piece that I can be proud of.
Basically today was a check-in on everyone's work thus far, but only 3 people had stuff to show. I have to agree with Raph in that he really can't help us if he doesn't see what we're working on throughout the semester. Of the projects shown, they were pretty good and certainly nothing that I couldn't do on my own...with some review. I'm beginning to feel the crunch to have something for Thursday, good luck everyone!
Today we only had a couple animations to go over. I thought I brought mine but guess I didn't. Glad I didnt tho because it sucked. I decided to start the animation all over. Because we didnt have much to go over we talked a little about the next project. Sounds pretty interesting
