  1. animation
    stop motion
    cell animation
    CG
motion graphics - movies, games, tv

    what is animation?
persistence of vision at about 14 fps
    circumstantial cinematics

    next project
redo sound project for next tuesday. more imaginative. go away from linear

Edgar Degah - one paragraph about him and a work

think more artistically - imagination is the strongest tool that we have

    process, internalize
    imagine and express, reassemble
    viewers response and imagine

*take sound poem, create animation for it (narrative)
auditory expression, now with visual expression
use only flat traditional geometric shapes, letters, and numbers
leave it some what incomplete (room to imagine)
    DYNAMIC
    no icons
semiotics to use - symbols, index, (no icons)
use imagination to take sounds out of context and re create a new context with visualization (animation)

    What is Animation?
->Giving life to someting which is lifeless
    -Persistance of Vision (14fps)
-The 3600 was not animation, but had Animatics

NEXT PROJECT - Recreate sound poems (with imagination) for regrade
-Using those sound projects, create an animation using Text, Numbers, and simple forms (flat, geometric shapes)
-Work with Index - allow viewer to participate by filling in your meaning with their own interpretation
    -NOT A LITERAL VISUAL TRANSLATION

  3. Animation- persistence of vision- 14 fps
    -stop motion
    -cell animation
    -CG
    -motion graphics

    Rebuild sound projects for Tuesday
    -make imaginative
    -first attempt too linear
    -consider the context of sounds

Edgar Degah- who? what? pick one project and reacte
    -due by midnight tonight

    Animation due before Spring Break
    - base visuals off of what happens in the narrative of sound poem
    - use 2D geometric and letter forms only
    - not a literal representation- create a way that the viewer can interact with the piece, force the viewer to participate
    - DON'T ICONICALLY REPRESENT

  4. List all animation types
    stop-motion
    cell-animation
    Computer Graphics
    Motion graphics

    Persistence of Vision
Image Sequence together in 14 fps

    Circumstancial animation

    neuro science

    Edgar De Gard

you superimpose your imagination of how you view the world

perception of the viewer to the artists piece

    rework sound poem
    create animation to the audio
Use type and shapes to create the visual representation of the audio piece

Don't make it iconic make it abstract

    Use index and symbols

    Use 2d shapes in a 3d world

Require the viewer to become a participant in the visuals by making them find meaning in the abstract.

    Unlimited use of color

    Data or to give information

Dynamic and interpreted meaning through motion.

  5. Video conference from Ruby Tuesday

2 1/2 weeks to work on midterm

    Kinds of animation:
    stop-motion
    cell-animation
    cgi
    Motion Graphics

    What is Animation?
    Lifeless brought to life
    Caused by persistance of vision
    images sequenced together.

Take sound poem re-do by next week build them based on the critique go away from linear

look up Edgar Degah and write about him by midnight

Your imagination is the biggest tool you have.

    Midterm:
Push imagination as far as possible to create an animation that works with the story. Use letters, numbers, and geometric shapes only.

    Stronger narrative - less linear
    more traditional story elements
    index, and symbol relationships only
    make it ENGAGING
creates opertunity for viewer to interact with the piece trying to figure out what is going on.

The primary goal is that it will force the viewer to interact with the piece by making it interesting and indexical, and symbolic

The letter B moving about the screen could be a bee.

  6. Animation-Where and what?
    stop motion
    cell-animation
    cg
    motion graphics

    lifeless->life
    persistence of vision (14fps)
    images sequenced together (magic lantern)

    Redo sound poem for Thursday

    Circumstantial animatic- on accident

    Next project-
Take sound poem, redone, and create an animation that works with it. Use only type, and geometric shapes.

Edgar Degas-look him up, write about him by midnight 1 para. and favorite piece.

His 3 floor model of academia

    Imagination:
    1.Process, think
    2.Express, do
    3.Perceive, react

    For midterm:
more abstract, focus on indexes and symbols rather than icons.
    work with relationships
    do not use words
transitions between letters, shapes and such allowed
    can use color
    Advantage-context
    primary goal-
forces viewer to take a part int he piece cognitively.

    Ex:B's buzzing

    ReplyDelete
  7. Animation: stop-motion, cell animation, CG, motion-graphics

    What is animation?
    lifeless to life
persistence of vision (14 fps) images sequenced together

keep final piece around 1.5 mins.

Edgard Degas - paragraph about him and any his works I like by midnight

    View, process, produce

create stronger narrative with conflict/resolution, represent visually using index images

    can use shapes letters, numbers

do not make a literal representation (iconic)

Create a system where the viewer has to cognitively complete the narrative
    - level of investigation on the viewer's part

    do NOT represent anything iconically

How are we able to change the context of the image and sound in this project?

interpretative meaning, example: have letter B's moving around with buzzing sound, can be interpreted as bees

    frame, clip, sequence

    ReplyDelete
  8. List types of animation

CGI, Stop Motion, Claymation, Cell Animation, Motion Graphics

Persistance of vision is seeing a series of frames in sequence at 14fps and we think that it is moving.

    Magic Lantern

    Research Edgar Degah by midnight
    an interesting piece or info
    reason for switching ???

    For project

redo sound projects so they have a stronger narrative, less linear and under 1min 15sec

    push imagination

create an animation using just letters numbers and geometric shapes

use the animation and spund project together to create a narrative and meaning behind the sounds and what you see.

    Example

B's flying around means nothing but when used with a buzzing sound you see them representing somthing that they aren't(Thats even pretty literal)

Conflict and resolution in the narrative

should force the viewer to interact with it cognitively

use index and symbol not icon

    create interest

Want the viewer to have to interpret
    Index relationships
Engaging visual representation of the poem
Don’t use words to represent things
    Can use 3D cameras

Persistence of Vision--> At About 14 frames per second we get a persistence of vision

    Magic Lantern, Flip books-->Type Project

Take the sound project home--. Rebuild based on the critique

    Keep under a minute

    Rob has a fat head

When we open our eyes to the world, we see and process all of the information given to us instantly

Look up Edgar Degas--> write who he was/ what he did/ send to rpah by midnight

Experience Word, Process it, super impose your imagination to create the understanding of reality

    Push your imagination
Take your soundpoem and create a visual expression
Type and traditional shapes and numbers

    Create a more interesting narrative

Creative a system where the viewer has to cognitively express the narrative/ traditional morphing

Create work that makes the viewer have to interact with it

Make it have Dynamic and interpretive meaning.

  11. -Persistence of vision gives animation its effect
    *magic lanterns, zoetropes
    *3d animation, claymation, cel animation

-Animation is used in pretty much every form of visual effect outside of straight video

-Analyze and rebuild the sound projects
-Remember to buy Proust was a Neuro Scientist

-Research Edgar Degas, and post something about him by midnight

!-Shapes, letters, and numbers, used in a non literal non iconic representation of a narrative story.

-Use our imagination, it's important to be imaginative when completely destroying any semblance of a good narrative or story for the purpose of fulfilling faux artistry

    Raph- webcam (eating Enchiladas)

    {carton, claymation, stop motion, CG computer graphics, motion graphics}

    persistence of vision: 14 fps
    * we began to see them as a sequence and moving objects.

    *circumstantial animatics

sound poem- redo by Tuesday of next week.
    * 1:30 long

    Neuro Science-

Edgar Degas- who, what, most interesting piece he's done-- DUE BY MIDNIGHT!

    - your imagination is the strongest faculty there is.
    * you experience, process, and super impose your imagination and processing of the world.

Perception of the viewer- internalize, process, reconstruct.

-rework sound poem- create animation to go with sound poem.
    * geometric flat forms
    * shapes can interact with letters

    -create stronger narrative
    - shapes, letters, #'s, in a dynamic way. create a way the viewer can participate.

    + use 3D cameras with 2D objects
    + use morphing
    - don't be iconic
+ use any geometric shape you want
+ combine them in any possible way
+ work that forces the viewer to interact cognitively

    + work heavily with symbolism
    + can be color

    context= very important
take sounds from context and use imagination

sound, how you use it, re-imagine it

    DYNAMIC- and interpretive meaning
    * Take time thinking through what you want to do

  14. 2/9
    Animation styles-
    claymation
    digital
    hand drawn
    cell
    stop motion
    motion graphics
    CGG

animation- bringing something to life that is lifeless.

    Persistance of vision 14 frames/second.

first examples of animation: magic lantern, zoetrope.

circumstancial animatics- an animation that happens not entirely on purpose (some things that happened in the 3600 project.)

Take our sound project, redo it, remove linearity, stronger story

bring it down to 1:30 ish

    recognition is the key.

degas- 2 paragraph, 1 bio, 1 of his work. (where to?)

    Imagination is our strongest faculty

    Experience a world
    superimpose on said world
perception of the viewer on what you've done.

    Push imagination

    Mid term project:

    Take sound poem
    create animation to narrate story.

work with type/shape, only 2d images.

    allowed: numbers/letters/shapes

Restriction: can't be in direct relation to what it is you're sound is supposed to be.

    Item------DON'T USE
    Index
    Symbol

    No restriction on color.

    Context focus
take sound out of context, into new context. how does motion help this?

take the time giving and completely realize the ability to create. Think back to the clip to clip relation.
