2/9/10 - Reflection

  1. Im sure there is gonna be a large variety to the projects this time. I don't know if it will be less linear then our first attempt sound projects. The hard part will be to represent something that viewers can't tie to a linear act. The imagination will have more than a couple possibilities for what the piece may represent. pretty much we take a line and break it, then try to put it back together how ever we please. But will Raphael like it?

  2. Today we were given our midterm assignment, creating a visual animation to go along with our sound poem. We will be given two and a half weeks to do the assignment, which I feel is a blessing and a curse, we have a large amount of time to complete the assignment, but Raph is already expecting alot from us, and DOES NOT like giving a large amount of time for assignments...

Im excited to be getting a big assignment, but im having flashbacks to the Text Story assignment from 204 and all the issues I had with it.

  3. I'm glad Raph gave us some sort of example of what to strive towards with this new project. The bees gave me an idea of what to strive for. Once we complete the sound poem I think that I will have a a better idea of what he is expecting for this assignment.

  4. I just hope I get my audio piece set correctly because if I fail at that the visual piece will look like crap. I hope that the B example that raph used in class today wasn't the only good use of symbolic reference. I'm not down with the type and font aspect of the piece.

  5. The more Raphael talked about what he wanted our sound pieces to be like the more I felt mine actually was planned the way he wanted it. None of the sounds I used were of what they were actually supposed to be, and the story I came up with in my head had an actual plot. I realize that some of the sounds I used sounded nothing like I thought they did so I suppose I failed in that aspect. Hopefully adding the visuals after fixing the audio the best I can will actually get my point across.

  6. I'm looking forward at the chance to bounce back from the sound pieces that we passed in, and this time I think I'm going to try and go in a different direction. I'm going to sit down again, and really just think about what the sounds sound like and make a story from that. I think the idea of adding the animation to it is a really great one as well, because while it will not directly show what is going on, it will give us the opportunity to work out some of the blurry spots and make the pieces much clearer.

  7. Like everyone else has mentioned, I glad that I have a chance to go back and fix my sound project. Of course, that also puts a lot of pressure on me to do a better job because it's a big component of the midterm project and could save or ruin it. While I'm glad we have a lot of wiggle room in regards to restrictions, at the same time that also presents the challenge of keeping a focus on your project and not just throwing-in every bell and whistle because you can. I am SO glad Raph is giving no projects over break, but that means we will be working our tails off before then.

  8. I think i actually get where this project is going compared to the last one. Maybe it took listening to everyone and knowing they all missed the mark to realize what to do. Either way im going into this with a little more confidence than the last time. It's still going to suck working with the sounds but together with the animations it should be an interesting project.

  9. I'm excited for this project and I have been thinking about how I want to redo my sound poem. I'm still a bit confused about how to represent the sound as what we are trying to have it be without doing an iconic representation. I'm guessing it will be easier to figure out once the sound poem is redone. I'm also excited but nervous to work with text because I had a completely different project when I was in Sheridan's class for 204.

  10. I'm kind of excited and nervous for this next assignment, I'm excited in that we get to play around with animation some more in after effects. I'm nervous because our class is the first to dip our toes in Raph's acidic pool of expectations. I'm glad we get to work on our sound poem again, I really want to get crazy with it, theres still grey area with what exactly needs to be done with it. One possible solution is to do some hardcore drugs and then work on it and see where the mind goes, but that's frowned upon by most. I don't really know how exactly I'm gonna get started on this mountain of a project, but I guess im just going to go for it, it's gonna get weird in here real quick.

  11. I'm not particularly excited for this project, it's ill defined, and in many ways appears to be a bit of a time waster considering I likely wouldn't want to use it as a portfolio piece. As with the audio narrative, whatever is eventually created will likely be a jumbled mess by design, and without a particularly clear set of requirements it will likely be somehow "incorrect" based on an unstated guideline. I spend a lot of money on classes, this class takes up quite a bit of my time, I wish I was doing something worthwhile for it.

  12. I thought that todays class went well. Like some others I'm also not sure if I'm really looking forward to re-working my audio from the previous project, but I am a bit excited about working in after effects. I haven't had to do something in AE for some time now and I'm really looking forward to going back into it knowing what I now know. I feel like Raph was a bit more clear on what we are to do this time then he has been in the past, but I'm also still anxious to see some of the work in progresses and his reactions. I think that will give all of us a better understanding of what he is really looking for.

  13. Class today went really well, even though Raph was making me hungry eating his Enchilada. I am really nervous as to how I am going to do the mid term but hopefully it will go just like the type project. I think Raph cleared up the problems we all had with the audio assignment but I am still worried as to what I want to do and how I am going to execute it. I think that works in progress will also help us do better with assignments so we know we are on track and will have enough time to do work.

  14. I'm pretty sure i understand how the next assignment will go, but at the very least it's all going to bank on if i can manage to pull off a better narrative with what i've got. Needless to say i'll be busy 'til thursday.
