    Think of a imaginary world and a person that fits into that world
    and place the character into it

    Create a series of interactions within that world

    Through the interaction find a way out

    You must use a narrative device that brings the character back

    Overarching theme: transition from industrial society to transcendental

    understanding real and imagined

    theme in book is pushing imagination, border between imagined world and this world

    prior to civil war, individualism was rare and sometimes viewed as heretical
